[Grus canadensis (Linnaeus)] • The sandhill crane is a very tall bird, with a long neck and legs. This bird is mostly grey, the adults having a red forehead. The Hul’q’umi’num’ name for sandhill crane is the basis of the name for the month of April (li:mus), the time when these birds are most abundant locally.
